Jaunmokas Castle

Tumes pagasts, Tukuma rajons, 75 km by Riga-Ventspils highway

Description:

Yaunmoku Castle was originally used as a hunting lodge for the mayor of the city. In 1920, after a series of political reforms, the castle became the property of the state, which rents out most of the office premises for rent, and in the castle itself organizes a Recreation House for children.

During the Second World War, the castle was seized several times and actively used by both the German and Russian armies. After the war, no one cared about the castle: shops were opened, film shows were held, shows were held, but no one was engaged in repairs. As a result, the castle quickly fell into disrepair. In 1974, the castle became the property of the Ministry of Forestry, which began the global reconstruction of the castle, which lasted about 20 years.

The government of Latvia is trying to turn this place into one of the centers of international tourism.
