Palace of Interotne
Raiņ a iela, Jū rmala, LV-2016, Latvija
Description:
Mezhotne Palace was built in 1802 for Princess Charlotte Karlovna Lieven, but she visited this residence only once in the company of Empress Maria Fedorovna.
The palace and all the service buildings were made in the same style and represent an elegant masterpiece of the classical era. Most of the work was done under the direction of Giacomo Quarenghi, and everywhere you can feel the hand of the great architect.
The palace was used more actively since 1920, when it housed an agricultural school. During the Second World War, the palace was badly damaged and lost much of its grandeur. After the war, most of the palace was occupied by the postal service and library, and part of the premises were converted into apartments.
The palace was able to return to its former greatness only in the second half of the last century, when a global reconstruction of the building was carried out and painting on the walls, stucco, mosaics were restored.
Now on the territory of the palace there is a hotel and a small library, where you can get acquainted with the history of the region and the former owners of these lands.
