Monument to the Walk of Love

Jelgava, LV-3003, Latvia

Description:

Not far from the Dobelsky highway is an unusual monument of the XIX century. Locals call it the Alley of Love and consider it a symbol of loyalty and devotion. The alley is a small path, planted on both sides with twelve birches. On one side of the alley there is a monument to K.L. Tchu in the form of a snake-covered urn, on the other hand - an obelisk to S.G. Schwander. If you do not know the history of this place, it is difficult to understand the meaning of the Walk of Love.

Legend has it that two friends fell in love with the daughter of a craftsman. But she chose the third and married him. They promised that they would remain single for the rest of their lives. Both swore they would be buried in the place where they were walking with the girl. After his death, a restrained Schwander was installed a strict laconic obelisk. Passionate and energetic Tchu, known for his adventures, was installed unusual urn entwined with snakes.

Today, the newlyweds come to the Walk of Love. In 2010, two large flower wreaths in the shape of wedding rings were installed here.
