Orthodox Church in the Name of Holy Grand Duke Vladimir
Strē lnieku prospekts 26, Jū rmala, Latvija
Description:
The issue of building an Orthodox church on the Riga seaside was first raised in the early 60s of the last century. All difficulties with the approval of the authorities were assumed by the district intendant and the real state councillor B.P. Makasheyev. After long negotiations, permission was obtained and Makasheev sent a petition to His Eminence Plato, Archbishop of Riga and Mitavsky with a request to assist in raising funds for the construction of the temple. A plot of land was chosen for the temple in the town of Dubbelne. The construction was completely taken over by the merchant of the first guild G.S. Lomonosov. The church was consecrated in honor of Equal-to-the-Apostles Grand Duke Vladimir.
