Castelgrande Castle
Description:
Castelgrande is the oldest of the three. It was built by the Romans at the end of the I century AD. To rebuild and improve it began only in the XIII century, when the local lands became the object of raids of neighboring principalities and duchies.
Unfortunately, fortified medieval walls almost not preserved buildings of those years. Time spared the White Tower, built in the XIII century.
Not far from it is the arsenal of the XIX century, which now operates a restaurant stylized under the Middle Ages.
But from the two towers consecrated in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, only the foundation remained. The remaining buildings were either destroyed during military raids, or demolished by the owners of the castle, in order to make room for military guns.
