Montebello Castle
Salita al Castelgrande, 6500 Bellinzona
Description:
Montebello Castle is the most vulnerable of the three, apart from Castelgrande and Sasso Corbaro. It was built in 1313, and it was already clear that it needed to be strengthened.
By the way, the castle is surrounded by deep moats that protect it from all sides. This helped to deter the enemy.
Montebello Castle was built by the Ruska family in honor of the victory over the Visconti family. Two hundred years later, Montebello fell into the hands of Visconti. The new owners expanded it, but after 1490 no one was engaged in it until 1903, when it was restored. Therefore, its fortress walls remember all the battles that took place in these parts.
They have preserved the chapel of St. Michael at the beginning of the XVII century. And in the museums of the castle exhibit medieval exhibits: ceramics, dishes, jewelry and weapons.
