Catholic Easter
Description:
Residents of Kaunas, returning from the morning festive service, for a long time linger on the square of the city hall. There every year build a huge Easter pyramid, which is solemnly opened by the city authorities.
To create it, 30,000 dyed eggs are used, which are brought by residents, bought by the municipality and private firms.
In Lithuania, for the fourth year on the day of Easter holidays, similar pyramids are built. Until now, they were erected in Vilnius, in the Vingis Forest Park. Last year, for example, was created from 25 thousand eggs. The Kaunas decided to get ahead of the capital, and the main Easter Pyramid of Lithuania was built in the hope that it would be included in the Guinness Book of Records.
After the Easter holidays, which last two days, the “building material” – painted eggs – will be distributed to orphanages, nursing homes and distributed to the homeless.
