The Blukas Festival

Description:

Burning Blukas - a symbol of the coming of a new time

According to an ancient Lithuanian custom, with the onset of the darkest time of the year, an old stump - Blukas - was dragged around the yards.

It symbolized the running of time, unfinished works and unfulfilled desires.

When this stump is burned, the past worries end and the preparation for the creation of a new world begins. The night stops lengthening and the sun gradually returns.

The festival is attended by costumed, folklore ensembles and theater groups.
