Sculptural Park "Majvidas"
Turgaus Street 7, Klaipeda, Lithuania
Description:
Mazvidas Sculpture Park is a city park of Klaipeda, in Lithuania, a great place for a pleasant walk. It is called Martinas Mazvidas Park in honor of the author of the first Lithuanian book. In the park there are about 100 modern sculptures exhibited for viewing.
The park was created on the territory of the former cemetery, which was opened in 1820. After World War II, the cemetery became abandoned, and the government decided to open a sculpture park on the site. The graves have been demolished and some original and unique crosses from the cemetery are now on display at the Kuznets Museum. To date, only a few tombstones remain in the northeast corner of the park.
