Palangi Botanical Garden

Palanga, Lithuania

Description:

Palanga Botanical Garden is one of the most beautiful and best preserved parks on the coast of Lithuania, which is located in Palanga. The garden is a real work of art that cannot but admire. Extensive territory, living colors of nature, communication of birds and trees, solitude and the absence of large crowds of people – which can be more pleasant for a well-spent time.

The park was founded in 1897 by Count Felix Tyszkiewicius. The author of the project of the park is the famous French architect landscape painter, botanist Edward François Andre, who for three years led the work on the creation of the park together with the Belgian gardener Buissen de Cowlon. In the park there is a unique palace, the project of which was designed by German architect Franz Schwechten, and the palace was built only in 1957 according to the drawings of architect Alfredas Brusokas. In front of the palace is an impressive sculpture, which is called the “Blessing Christ”. Now there is a museum of amber in the palace.

Nature and architecture are harmoniously linked, which is a tempting place for a family holiday or a romantic walk. The territory of the garden is very diverse: here you can walk along the paths, studying sculptures, you can sit on benches in the shade of trees, you can relax by the pond, admiring the birds, and you can be in a real forest, where there is an amazing grotto Lourdes.

In the Botanical Garden there is one ancient and iconic place - the hill of Biruta - a pagan priestess. Now on the site of the sanctuary stands the chapel of St. George. Near the hill there is a sculpture “You, Biruta”.

Walking through the botanical garden, you can go to the sea.
