Travel by car to ancient Trakai / visit the medieval castle on the island
Description:
If you are a great romantic and love to travel, as well as you like fairy tales and legends about castles and knights, then you should go with me to the town of Trakai and get a lot of pleasant impressions from the excursion.
Trakai is an amazing, beautiful and romantic town located 27 km from Vilnius (~35 minutes by car). Trakai is one of the five state-protected places in Lithuania. It is also called an “open-air museum”. The city literally stands on the water. On all sides it is surrounded by lakes. There's about two hundred of them here. On one of the islands there is a medieval castle, which is the main local attraction. Now there is a historical museum.
I suggest to you:
- Trakai Castle is a real fortress of the 16th century, the former residence of the great Lithuanian princes.
- plunge into the atmosphere of the Middle Ages
- Listen to different legends and stories
- climb
- look at the nerve ceilings and lancet windows with stained glass inserts
- Take a look at the magnificent medieval furniture
- memorialize
- In the yard of the castle you will be able to see and appreciate the ancient instruments of torture, you will be able to get the skills of archery and crossbow shooting (in the warm season).
- ride a water tram or yacht for an additional fee (possibly in the summer season)
In addition, visiting Trakai, I will introduce you to the culture and cuisine of one of the Turkic peoples - Karaites. Only 8,500 people live in the world and only 64 Karaites live in the town of Trakai today.
I always advise my guests-tourists to visit the local Karaite tavern, and try kibins (crescent-shaped cakes with filling) and Karaite tincture on the oriental spices and roots of Krupnik.
You will enjoy amazing facts and unheard-of stories about this people who have lived in Lithuania for more than 550 years. Together with you, we will walk along Karaimskaya street, where you will find out why there are houses with three windows facing the street, and the inhabitants of these houses walk with flattened heads.
You will return from Trakai rested and with a lot of positive impressions.
Welcome to Trakai!
