Plokstin Reserve

d. Payelai, Lithuania

Description:

Plokstinsky Reserve is located in Lithuania, in the vicinity of the city of Platelai. This city, whose history dates back to the XVII century, has become an iconic place for this area. The paths laid from the city to other settlements still remind of the distant era of paganism - at intersections you can find wooden crosses and century-old oaks. Also in the reserve you will see monuments of mythology, ethnography, castle ruins, the remains of ancient religious buildings.

Plokstinsky Wildlife Reserve, located on the territory of the Zhemanty National Park, plays a fundamental role. Rare plants in the forests of the reserve are found almost at every step. Almost all the eastern shores of the lakes are covered with pine forest, where you can meet deer, moose, raccoon, fox, squirrel, otter and other representatives of the local fauna. More than 150 species of birds nest in the reserve. Many plants, fungi, birds and animals that are located on the territory of the Plokstinsky Wildlife Reserve are listed in the Red Book.

Limitless water expanses and forest thickets, clean lakes, abodes of many birds - all this can be seen from specially constructed observation platforms. Also of considerable interest is the Soviet missile base, which is open to visitors, stationed in the Ploksteinis forest.
