Presidential Palace

s. Daukanto Square, 3, Vilnius, Lithuania

Description:

Built in the 16th century, the palace was later subjected to several looting and fires - for this reason, the building was repeatedly restored. In 1792, the building was completely rebuilt under the leadership of Laurinas Guciavičius. In 1832, the building acquired its modern appearance - the architecture of the palace was changed, the eastern part of the building was completely built, the building itself was expanded.

In the courtyard of the Presidential Palace since 1819 there was a house church, and in the building of the Cordegaria, located opposite the palace, in 1901-1915 there was the Museum of Count M. N. Muravyov, which collected various objects that belonged to the Muravyov era: two chairs, a desk, a cane, seals and much more that belonged to him.

The luxurious palace is built in the style of late classicism with features characteristic of this style - regularity of planning and clarity of the three-dimensional shape, symmetrical axial compositions, restraint of decorative decoration, monumentality of the columns. In architectural terms, the most interesting are the halls of the second floor, decorated in the XIX century, with stucco compositions on the ceilings.
