Literatu Street
Lithuania, Vilnius, 01013, Old Town
Description:
The narrow and short street of Literatu is one of the oldest in Vilnius. Back in the early 19th century, there were many bookstores and second-hand bookshops, and even earlier – printing houses, hence the name of the street.
Literatu Street is famous for the fact that in 1823 the famous Polish and Belarusian poet and publicist Adam Mickiewicz lived on it for some time. Now you can see the plaques at the entrance to the courtyard of the house where he stayed. There are few houses on Literat, most of them are distinguished by original architectural forms, which gives the street a special picturesqueness.
Since 2008, the Literatu Street project has been launched, which involves placing dedications to various Lithuanian and foreign poets and writers from antiquity to the present on the walls of the street. Today on the walls of houses there are about 200 initiations – these are tablets made of metal, wood, glass and ceramic products.
