Pavilnio gatve 1, Vilnius, Lithuania

About the company:

The Pushkin Literary Museum in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, is one of the most interesting and old literary museums in the city. It has existed since 1949 and is located in the former estate of the son of the poet Grigory Pushkin and his wife Varvara Melnikova.

The estate was the property of Varvara’s father, engineer Melnikov, who later gave it to her daughter as a wedding gift. According to the will of Varvara, after her death, the estate went to the Vilna Russian society, with the aim of creating a museum of A.S. Pushkin.

The whole complex of the museum consists of a manor - a former residential building, an estate with ponds, a chapel, a small cemetery and a monument to the great poet. The exposition of the museum acquaints with the work of A.S. Pushkin, and especially with the influence of Lithuanian culture on his works. There is a stand that tells about the history of translations of the poet’s works into Lithuanian, with theatrical productions of his works in the theaters of Vilnius and Lithuania. Preserved the situation that was during the life of Gregory and Varvara Pushkin, household and life items, manuscripts and drawings, books and photographs of the couple.
