Mother's Day

Description:

For Lebanese, Mother’s Day is the most touching and joyful holiday.
Arab countries in the Middle East celebrate Mother’s Day on March 21.

Celebrated annually in several countries in mid-March, the holiday is a day of remembrance for mothers around the world, honoring their labor and selfless sacrifice for the benefit of their children.

For Lebanese, Mother’s Day is the most touching and joyful holiday. Respect for elders, and especially for mothers, is instilled in Arab society from childhood. On this day, Lebanese people go to visit their parents and congratulate their mothers.

In recent years, however, Mother’s Day celebrations in Lebanon have included one in five fathers. According to statistics, 20% of all marriages in the country end in divorce. According to local law, the fate of children is decided by the father. And often, under pressure from public opinion and relatives, he leaves the children to himself, allowing his ex-wife only occasionally to visit them.
