Jeith Caves (Beirut)
Lebanon, Mount Lebanon province, Keservan district, Jeita
Description:
Jeith Caves, located near the village of the same name 18 kilometers from Beirut, is one of the most famous natural attractions in Lebanon. These caves, formed in limestone sediments in the Paleolithic era, amaze the imagination with bizarre forms of stalactites and many underground springs, from which the Dog River originates.
The cave complex is formed by two caves - Upper and Lower. Both caves are equipped for tourists to visit. The tour begins in the Upper unflooded cave, consisting of three halls with a height of more than one hundred meters. Here you can see the eight-meter stalagmite - one of the longest in the world.
The lower cave was opened in 1836, its length is almost seven kilometers. Tourists are invited to take a boat trip on the underground river. Interestingly, the water from the Lower Cave is taken into the local water supply.
Both caves are colorfully illuminated. The entrance ticket price also includes a trip on a cable car to the Upper Cave.
