Palm Islands
Description:
The Palm Islands are a nature reserve in the Mediterranean Sea that consists of three flat rocky islands – Rabbits Island, Sanani Island and Remkin Island. The islands have been known since ancient times in Lebanon, but were only opened to the public in 1999.
The Palm Islands are located about six kilometers from Tripoli, in the northern province of Lebanon, in the northwest of the country. On the largest of the three islands - Rabbits Island or just Palm Island, you can ride a boat, swim in the sea or enjoy the view of 570 palm trees, which are irrigated piecewise. Sanani Island is preferred by adventurers, as most of its territory is dominated by cliffs and only a few places have sandy coasts. On Remkin Island are interesting ruins of an old lighthouse and other archaeological finds. All three Palm Islands are unique biotopes and have been protected by law since 1992.
