Madagascar

Catholic Christmas

Description:

Christmas traditions in Madagascar are different.
Christmas traditions in Madagascar are somewhat different than in the United States. The first and most important difference is that very few places are decorated with pine trees, fir trees and other trees, the fact is that the government prevents this tradition, since deforestation is a major environmental problem in Madagascar. Of course, pine and spruce can be found in the shops of the capital, but their reserves are very limited.

Santa Claus is an integral part of Christmas in Madagascar. Santa Claus is lovingly called "Dadabe Noely" - "Christmas Grandfather". He wears a red outfit, but he's very thin.

Churches and houses are not full of garlands and other Christmas attributes compared to Western countries. The money is instead spent on buying treats for children and new clothes for the whole family. Anthems are an important part of Madagascar’s Christmas celebrations. Both children and adults take part in the singing of Christmas carols.

On this day, picnics are traditional. Another common custom is to visit your older relatives. In general, Christmas in Madagascar is permeated with the spirit of fun and pranks and is one of the main celebrations of the island.
