Amber Mountain National Park

Amber Mountain National Park, Antsiranana Rural, Madagascar

Description:

Amber Mountain National Park is located 30 kilometers from Diego Suarez. It is the oldest national park in Madagascar and opened in 1958.

The park itself is 185 square kilometers, located at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level.

It is the main source of water and precipitation for the entire northern part of Madagascar, as it receives 10 times more precipitation than the surrounding savannah. The favorable climate and abundance of precipitation had a positive effect on the local fauna.

The park is home to a large number of different representatives of the animal world: 25 species of mammals, 75 different species of birds, 60 species of reptiles and more than 40 species of beautiful butterflies.

The main attraction of the park are its waterfalls, of which there are several. They are not only beautiful, but also serve as a place of sacred worship for the locals. According to them, waterfalls allow you to communicate with your ancestors. Such a place of worship is one of the largest waterfalls in the park - the Sacred Falls.

The best time to visit the park is between September and November.
