11 March KA Dimitar Vlakhov br. 1 Skopje 1000, Macedonia
Description:
Skopje Stone Bridge is the main decoration of the capital of Macedonia, connecting the new and old parts of the city. Since the bridge is visited by a huge number of tourists, construction work is actively underway on it, namely, the once destroyed guardhouse, which was built on the highest point of the bridge, is being restored.
The exact date of construction of the bridge is unknown. There are many theories about the construction of the bridge. For example, one of them says that the bridge was built during the reign of the Ottoman Empire in the second half of the XV century. The structure was built of stone blocks and columns that support the bridge. The bridge is decorated with various decorative elements of Islamic sacred and secular architecture. On one side of the bridge are depicted the heroes of the Macedonian resistance, on the other - monuments to Cyril and Methodius, and in the middle - a memorial stone in honor of the leader of the uprising of peasants Karpos, whom the Turks threw in Vardar.
