Macedonia Square

Skopje 1000, Macedonia, intersection of Orce Nikolov and 11 Octomvri

Description:

Macedonia Square is located in Skopje, the capital of Macedonia. This huge area surprises with its size. Such a large area was possible due to a strong earthquake in 1963, which destroyed several buildings on the site of the current square. On the square you can see many monuments to commanders, kings of antiquity and various saints. Also there are clubs, shopping centers, cafes and restaurants.

In the center of the square stands a majestic equestrian monument to Alexander the Great. The height of the monument is more than 20 meters. At the foot of the monument there are 8 sculptures depicting 8 soldiers from the Macedonian phalanx. Of interest are the marble monument to King Samuel and the sculpture depicting Mother Teresa. Near the entrance to the Kameni Bridge, you can see monuments to the heroes of the Macedonian resistance Dame Gruev and Goce Delchev. The Kameni Bridge leads from Macedonia Square to the opposite bank of the river. This bridge was built, according to one version, in the XV century. Constructed of large stone blocks, it is perfectly preserved to this day.
