Lilongwe

Livond National Park

Machinga, 131, Malawi

Description:

Livond Park is Malawi’s richest national park, located about 230 kilometers southeast of Malawi’s capital Lilongwe.

The landscapes of the park are surprisingly diverse: swamps and lagoons, grass meadows and reed banks of the river. In the driest areas, palm trees and baobabs grow.

The park occupies part of the coast of Lake Malawi and the Shire River - hippos and crocodiles live in these waters. The animal world of the park is very diverse: it is home to the largest population of elephants in Malawi, the plains have become home to zebras, water goats, antelopes, rhinos, as well as lions.

Going on a tour at night, you can see the African bush hare, striped jackal, spotted hyena and other nocturnal animals.

The best time to visit the park is from October to January. During the rainy season (April to October), the park is closed, although tourist camps are open all year round, but access to them is only by boat.
