Chinese Garden of Tranquility
Triq Il Pepprin, Santa Lucia, Malta
Description:
In July 1997, a traditional Chinese garden was opened in the heart of the Mediterranean. Malta has always been a crossroads of many trade routes and has absorbed elements of different cultures over the centuries. The creation of the traditional Chinese Garden of Tranquility in Santa Lucia was timed to strengthen friendly relations between these countries. And although this garden is made in accordance with the traditional architectural tradition of the Celestial Empire, it is different from many other Chinese gardens.
The attracted masters managed to create a real work of garden and park art. The architect’s plan was to create a kind of symbol of Life at all its stages of development. All corners of the park symbolize images of peace and tranquility, harmony and natural movement of things. It is sometimes called the garden of serenity. It harmoniously combines miniature landscapes and natural landscape, elegant Chinese pagodas with red roof and openwork wooden bridges. In this garden, every stone and stream is in its place.
In the guidebook, you may be surprised to find a small cemetery. The memorial park with ancient tombstones was completely destroyed, and now only an elderly custodian can tell about it.
