Blue Grotto

Malta, Blue Grotto Sea Inlet. From Valletta to the Blue Grotto, you first need to take a bus to the city of Zurrieq. Then, it is best to get by taxi in a few minutes or walk for about an hour.

Description:

The Blue Grotto (Il-Hnejja in Maltese) is located south of Marsascala, near the town of Zurrijek. The name of the grotto was given by British soldiers by analogy with the Blue Grotto, located on Capri. The walls of the grotto and its cave system reflect the brilliant purple, orange and pink colors of the underwater flora.

The landscape around the Blue Grotto is breathtaking: blue Mediterranean water, high cliffs, and on windy days - giant sea waves. Here you can also see the small island of Filfa, it is uninhabited - except for unique species of lizards. Walking back to the coast offers excellent views of the Wied iz-Zurrieq valley.

It is important for tourists to know that small boats can visit the grotto on days when the sea is relatively calm. The excursion to the Blue Grotto on a motor boat lasts about 30 minutes.
