St. Paul's Cathedral

Triq Santu Rokku, L-Imdina, Malta

Description:

St. Paul’s Cathedral is considered the architectural crown of Mdina. Built in the late 17th century, this Baroque masterpiece by Maltese architect Lorenzo Gafa sits on the site of a Norman church destroyed by an earthquake in 1693.

The interior of the cathedral is made of Irish wood. Visitors to the cathedral will be able to see the works of the Calabrian artist and knight Mattia Preti, in particular, the monumental image of the Conversion of St. Paul, which was originally part of the Norman church, as well as several engravings by Albrecht Dürer.

No one can ignore the marble-lined tombstones decorated with coats of arms and initiations of the bishops of Mdina.
