Mont Carmel Church
Description:
Carmelite Church in Sliema (Sliema).
The first version of the church in 1570 was created by the architect Girolamo Cassar.
After the World War II bombings, the church looked deplorable. And then around the remains of the old building was built a new, much larger size. Construction began in 1958, the church was restored for almost 20 years. The dome of the new structure rushed to the height of more than 62 meters, faced with local stone. But if you go inside, you see an oval dome, and not round, as it seems at a distance. The church inside is very bright and elegant.
