La Vanilla Reserve
Description:
La Vanilla Reserve is located in the south of the island of Mauritius. This nature reserve, created in 1985 to breed and reproduce Madagascar crocodiles, has gradually turned into a huge zoo.
Crocodiles and giant turtles are the main attractions of this zoo. There are also many other animals: caimans, iguanas, star turtles of Madagascar, freshwater turtles, geckos, cat sharks, eels, and 20,000 species of insects and butterflies in the insectarium.
This park is one of the most interesting places on the southern coast. This is an unusual place where you can approach, pet and even sit on the shell of the numerous giant turtles that walk free throughout the reserve.
