Ras Nuadibou Peninsula
Description:
Ros – Nadibu is a peninsula that is located in the western part of Africa, in Mauritania. Its length is about 70 kilometers, the highest point is 27 meters. This is a narrow peninsula, the extreme southern point of which is Cape Blanc.
During colonialism, the area was divided from north to south. The final border appeared in 1900 - the west of the peninsula entered the Spanish colony of Rio de Oro (Western Sahara), the east - Mauritania.
The largest city in the western part is Laguira, where there is still a highway from the time of the Spaniards, which in our time is practically unused.
The territory is famous for the fact that here lives the rarest animal in the world – a seal – a monk. Until 1997, the number of this species was 310, but after the epidemic, a third of them died. Today, the population is slowly increasing.
