Golden Eagle Festival + Mongol Els Desert

Join us for an unforgettable trip to the annual Golden Eagle Festival in Bayan-Ulegei aimak, located in the Altai Mountains in western Mongolia. Along the way, the tour provides for photographing the landscapes of the Chuisky tract of the Gorny Altai and visiting excursion facilities of the Mongolian Altai.

The photo tour program is designed for lovers of exotic spectacles and photographers. In the Bayan-Ulegei aimak, where Mongolian Kazakhs live, a national colorful holiday is held annually: the struggle of horsemen goat buffalo "KekBeru" and the main spectacle is the hunters' competition - "Berkutchi". For the sake of this spectacle, photographers of famous magazines, rich lovers of exoticism come here from afar. Demonstration of hunting techniques with a predatory eagle in the main role is a rare sight. Participants of the festival are serious about national clothes and other colorful attributes. Embroidered beaded boots, silver harnesses, embroidered plasters and colorful robes - these people with genuine love keep the legacy of their ancestors. During the holiday, the local population brings many antiquities and souvenirs of local artisans, which are offered for sale to tourists. In this tour, we have envisaged a visit to one of the most beautiful lakes of the Mongolian Altai - Dorgon Nuur, which is located in the Kotlovina of large lakes, at the western end of the Mongolian desert Khomyn Els and much more you will see in our exciting journey.

PROGRAMME

DAY 1

On the first day of our trip you will find a fascinating excursion along the Chui tract. We will pass two picturesque high mountain passes Seminsky and Chike Taman. We will visit the sacred places of the indigenous population, look at cave paintings, visit the observation decks. We will see the white peaks of the mountains.

DAY 2

We pass all formalities on the border between Russia and Mongolia. Crossing the state border. Then we go through the Durbet Dawaa Pass (2481 m) and the last formalities at the Mongolian checkpoint. Next, near the state border, in the settlement "Karsnaya Yurt", we have lunch. We eat a signature Mongolian dish of boosa (manta) from high mountain lamb. On the way about 70 km. and the border town of Ulgiy. Accommodation in a hotel in the city of Ulgiy. An evening walk around the city. Dinner at a Mongolian restaurant.

DAY 3

The purpose of today’s trip is the oldest Mongolian city of Khovd (Kobdo), which was the backbone of the Mongol Empire. The road runs through the Hashaat Dawaa Pass, the Sayran ul mountain range (3981 m). On the way, we will take a photopause on the high-altitude lake Tolbo Nuur.

DAY 4

In the morning, in the local supermarket, we replenish the provisions, and go to the picturesque lake Dorgon Nuur, which is located in the western end of the Mongolian desert Mongol Els (Khomyn Els) in the basin of the Big Lakes. Walk through the sand barchans of the Mongolian desert.

DAY 5

In the morning walk through the sand barchans of the Mongol Els desert, in the afternoon departure to the city of Hovd. On the way, we will visit the local nomads and get acquainted with the life and culture of the nomadic people.

DAY 6

In the morning we will visit the morning service in the Buddhist datsan Gandan Putsang, where you will see monks reading mantras. Then a walk through the city market, where you can get acquainted with agricultural and livestock products and many other interesting things. Then we will visit the local history museum of the Khovdin aimak, where especially valuable materials on the history and culture of the nomadic people are collected. After lunch, return on the already familiar road to the city of Ulgiy.

DAY 7

Today we will spend the whole day at the festival. Parade of all hunters, competitions in several types of competitions, hunting with eagles, camel races, archery.

DAY 8

Second day of the festival. Continuation of competitions (KyzKuar, Kyok Beru), bright costumes, photography. At the end of the day, the winner is determined.

DAY 9

In the morning we leave on the familiar road to Kosh-Agach. Having issued documents at the checkpoint "Tashanta", we get to Russia. Behind it is an amazing and diverse country, its history and archaeology, culture and nomadic way of life. Evening tour in the tract Kyzyl Chin (Mars 1, 2). Accommodation in the guest house.

DAY 10

Return to the city of Gorno-Altaisk. Accommodation in a hotel or guest house is not included in the price.
