National Museum of Natural History
Mozambique, Maputo, Travessia Avenue
About the company:
The National Museum of Natural History of Mozambique is located in downtown Maputo. The museum has a rich history that dates back to 1911. Since 1933, the museum occupies an impressive building on Travessia Avenue.
In colonial times and up until 1975, the museum bore the name of Alvaro de Castro, the local governor-general who did much to preserve the history and culture of the peoples of Mozambique.
Of great interest is the unique collection showing the stages of pregnancy of elephants. Only here you can see how the elephant grows and develops in the womb. There are also thousands of stuffed birds and animals.
The museum has a huge collection of monuments of culture and life of ancient people living in Mozambique. The material components of the cultures of all ethnic groups living in the state are presented here. Interesting are both the expositions of the museum and the building itself. Created in one of the directions of colonial architecture, the neo-Manueline style, the museum building impresses with its scope and beauty.
