German Fort (Alte Feste) National Museum of Namibia

About the company:

The old fortress, which houses the country and historical branches of the National Museum of Namibia, is already of considerable interest in itself. The old fortress was built in 1890 by German colonialists and served to prevent wars between the Nama and Herero tribes. Today, the date of laying the first stone of the fortress is considered the date of foundation of the city of Windhoek. On the towers and walls of the Old Fortress still preserved guns that were installed here during its construction.

The National Museum of Namibia in Windhoek currently occupies two buildings: the Old Fortress (Alte Feste) and the Ovel Museum. While the historical and country studies department are located in the Old Fortress building, the zoological and natural history sections are located in the museum building in the heart of Windhoek. The management of the museum works in the building, which is located opposite the Old Fortress.
