Dattatreya Temple
Khauma Tol, Bhaktapur 44800, Nepal
Description:
Dattatreya Temple is a tall and square temple built in 1427 by King Yaksa Malla. Documents say that the temple building was built from a single tree trunk. At that time, all the important structures of the city were built of wood.
The temple is dedicated to Dattatreya - mixed incarnations of the gods Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, although the Garuda on the upper column and the traditional weapons of Vishnu on the pillars indicate a strong influence of Vishnu. The temple is an important place of worship for Vishnuites and Buddhists.
The temple is a three-storey building built on a special basis above the ground. On this basis, some erotic scenes are cut. The front of the temple, which was later built, is guarded by two Malla wrestlers.
