Tanzing and Hillary Airport
Description:
Tanzing and Hillary Airport is a small airport located in Lukla, eastern Nepal. It was named in 2008 after the first people to climb Everest.
The airport is located at 2860 meters above sea level. The beginning of the runway is located at the foot of the ridge, whose height is 4000 meters, and the end is at the edge of the 700-meter cliff. On the platform of the airport there are four parking areas and one helicopter. Landings and takeoffs are carried out by VFR because there is only one navigation equipment available at Tanzing and Hillary Airport - a radio station.
Located in close proximity to Mount Everest, the airport is popular with beginner climbers from Lukla. Flights in this area are possible only with good visibility. Weather conditions here are unpredictable, and frequent weather instability causes flight cancellations. The airport is ready to accept such helicopters and aircraft as Dornier Do 228, De Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter.
