Mount Macchapuccre
Machapuchare, Annapurna National Park, 33700, Nepal
Description:
Machapuchare is located about 25 kilometers north of Pokhara, on the edge of a mountain range running south of the main part of the Annapurna massif. This ridge forms the eastern boundary of the Annapurna Sanctuary plateau, a place popular with mountain tourism enthusiasts.
The peak of Machapuchare in the Annapurna mountain range gets its name from the pronunciation in the local language of the expression "fish tail", for its appearance. It is also known as the Himalayan Matterhorn. Its height is 6993 meters, and the only ascent was made in 1957, but the British Noyce and Cox decided not to climb directly to the summit and stopped 50 meters from it, so as not to offend the religious feelings of believers.
