What to see in Patan

Patan is one of Nepal’s oldest and most soulful cities, often called Lalitpur. Its history goes into the deep past, and its uniqueness is manifested in the combination of religious atmosphere, craftsmanship and quiet courtyards. Walking through the narrow streets gives a sense of belonging to an age-old tradition where every carved detail tells its story.

Manufactures and facilities

Among the man-made attractions are the terracotta temple of the Thousand Buddhas of Mahabuddha, built in 1585 near the Palace Square, the historical Golden Temple of Hiranyavarna Mahavihar with a three-storey structure, the ancient Kumbeshwar temple of the late XIV century and the famous Krishna Temple in the royal square. If you don’t know what to see first, these places will become a must-see – they showcase the local architecture, religious traditions and artistic techniques of the Patan masters.

Natural attractions and places

Natural attractions around the city complement the urban landscape: landscaped gardens, quiet courtyards and green spaces of the Kathmandu Valley give you the opportunity to enjoy the views in peace. In the broader context of materials about the region, the Shukla Panta Nature Reserve in the Terai region in the far west of Nepal is also mentioned - an example of the country's natural resources that can be combined with cultural tours of the city.

Build routes and visit interesting places

On our site, all these attractions are marked on an interactive map: you can briefly read their descriptions, see photos and build the optimal route by points of interest. The map helps to plan the day, calculate the time for inspection and make a convenient route to see the maximum in a short time.

Patan is convenient to explore both independently and with a guide: independent walks will allow you to feel the atmosphere and find unexpected corners, and professional excursions will give a depth of understanding of the historical context and religious meanings. Local guides will tell little-known stories, show hidden details of architecture and make the trip informative and fascinating.

Come to Patan to discover its temples, workshops and ancient squares with your own eyes. Make routes, choose what to see, book excursions or walk slowly - this city will give a lot of impressions and inspiration for new travel.
