Shukla Panta Reserve

Nepal, Far West Region

Description:

Shukla Panta Reserve is located in Terai District of the Far West region of Nepal. The territory of the reserve covers 305 square kilometers of open meadows, forests, rivers and lakes at an altitude of 174 to 1,386 meters above sea level.

The reserve was founded in 1973 as the Shukla Panta Royal Reserve. A small part of the reserve is located north of the busy motorway, so a special crossing has been created to ensure seasonal migration of wildlife through the highway.

In the south, the reserve borders with the Tiger Reserve of Kishanpur, located in neighboring India. Part of the reserve is represented by savannas and floodplain meadows. Before the creation of the reserve, the area was a favorite hunting ground for the ruling class of Nepal. In 1969, the Royal Hunting Reserve was opened here.

The reserve received its name from one of the meadows. Here is the largest in Nepal cluster of meadows and pastures of wild animals, whose area is 16 square kilometers.

On the territory of the reserve found the remains of an ancient kingdom. You can still see the ruins of an ancient fortress and other buildings here.
