Kumbeshwar Temple
north of the plate. Durbar, Patan, Nepal
Description:
Kumbeshwar Temple, built in the late 14th century, is one of the oldest in Nepal. In addition, it is considered one of the few multi-storey temples of the Kathmandu Valley. Kumbeshwar has five floors.
Kumbeshwar occupies a large area. It looks original, but unusually harmonious, and admires the skillful small carved details. The extensive courtyard of the temple is filled with sculptural images and small stupas. There are also two swimming pools with water for ritual bathing. It is believed that the water in them is from the sacred lake Gosainkuda.
That the temple is dedicated to Shiva, says the statue of the bull Nandi, installed in front of him.
Thousands of pilgrims flock here during the religious festival, held during the summer months. These days the temple looks unusually colorful.
