Sightseeing tour of Pokhara
Description:
Pokhara is the second largest city in Nepal. It is located on the shore of the calm lake Feva only 60 km from the snowy Himalayas. This makes it one of the most attractive cities in this country. Mountain peaks reflected in the water surface, the temple of Varakhi on the island in the middle of the lake, museums and temple complexes, and most importantly - the beginning of several popular tourist routes, irresistibly attract tourists here. This is a city of joy and tranquility, freshly squeezed juices, paraglide flights and recreation. I like to tour it, as it opens it to guests from a new, not only tourist, side. There is much to see here, except restaurants and souvenir shops.
Starting our tour is best with the most stunning action in the world: the dawn on the hill of Saarangkot. It offers the best view of the Himalayas in Pokhara. At dawn, the mountains are almost always visible, but let the weather gods be kind to us on this day. It makes no sense to describe the beauty of these species, it was only possible to convey it to Roerich in his paintings. And for once in my life, it's worth seeing.
From worldly life to spiritual life, and we are going to the temple complex of Bindabasini. The temples of Shiva and Krishna are located here. There is a beautiful viewing platform for the city and the mountains. On certain days of the week there are sacrifices to the blood goddess Kali. The complex itself is always well maintained and located among the greenery. It’s great to be in this early morning.
We will continue our tour at the Gurkha Museum. Glorious warriors who are honored not only in Nepal, but also at the court of the British Crown. There is still a Gurkha regiment formed of Nepalese. The museum contains historical documents, weapons, uniforms and some trophies.
And the International Mountain Museum has a magnificent collection of traditional utensils, folk costumes and agricultural tools of different nationalities of Nepal. But even more is told about the geology, geography, flora and fauna of the Nepalese Himalayas. There is a huge department dedicated to the first expeditions to the highest mountains of the planet and the first climbers. Their equipment is lying, sometimes awards and a lot of photos. The museum will be interesting for both children and adults.
After such a busy first half of the day, it is time for a pleasant lunch at Lake Begnas. There are several fish farms and this place is famous for its tranquility. In one of the local restaurants, very simple in appearance, we will prepare delicious freshly caught fish and serve other Nepalese dishes. Tourists rarely visit this place.
From one quiet place, it is time to go to another – to the stupa of the World. It can usually be seen from anywhere in Lakeside, rising on a hill above Lake Fewa. From the stupa opens an amazing pastoral to the city, lake and snowy mountains. It is a harmonious, benevolent and pleasant place where it will be just a pleasure to be here.
On the descent from the stupa of the world we will visit the Davis Falls, where the water plummets into a steep canyon. It continues its movement in the cave of Shiva Guptesvor, which is on the other side of the road and has a separate entrance. It even has a semi-automatic model of a sacred cow, from which for a few rupees a stream of milk is poured on the sacred Shiva-lingam. And at the exit we will look at the Tibetan refugee camp, which is located here in the 50s of the last century. They have already rebuilt their homes and built a sacred stupa. Tibetans often sell souvenirs made in the camp.
To complete this very rich and bright day is a pleasant boat trip on Lake Feva with a visit to the temple of Varahi on the island. At the pier, you can hire a boat with a rower for an hour and ride on it visiting both the island and the remote corners of the lake. It will be a pleasant, logical and beautiful ending of our tour.
It is possible to change the route at the request of tourists.
