Caligandaki Valley

Kali Gandaki, 33300, Nepal

Description:

The valley of Kaligandaki is considered the deepest on our planet. The base of the valley is at an altitude of 2500 meters, and the mountains that form it rise more than 8000 meters (the array of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri).

The valley below has a mild subtropical climate. Here grow citrus fruits, bananas and other characteristic plants. Above, the climate becomes drier. The local population has adapted to grow apple orchards. Apples are delicious and never wormy. They are exported to the Queen of England. Gradually, the landscapes become drier, moving into the mountain desert.

There are many ancient fortresses and temples in this area. Some are ruined by time and some are still in action. The most famous of them are in the villages of Mukhtinat and Kagbeni.
