Tugchen Monastery

Lo Mantang 33100, Nepal

Description:

Tugchen Monastery is one of the three ancient monasteries of Lo Matanga. Huge clay figures of spirit guards stand at the entrance to this majestic temple. Tugchen still has a pristine appearance, although it was built many centuries ago.

There are also two other temples in the city: the Champa Temple (1420) and the Chodei Monastery. Lo Matang is the capital of the ancient kingdom of Mustang. The name of the city means "place of blessing in the south". The entrance to the city is through the only gates, which are closed at night.
