Asian beaches flooded with oil
Not far from the Thai resort of Pattaya oil spoiled the coast of Samet, which is 140 km from Bangkok. The incident occurred 20 km from the coast in the South China Sea on Saturday, July 27. 50 tons of crude oil spilled from the tanker. As a result, an oil spill was formed 2.5 km long and about 800 meters wide.
Samet was the first to suffer from the oil spill, where about 10 tons of contaminated soil and water have already been removed. The work is carried out by PTT Global Chemical, which caused the oil spill. They will continue for at least another 10 days.
On Wednesday, July 31, another similar accident occurred in Southeast Asia, and its consequences threaten to be even more serious for the environment. Off the coast of Indonesia, when pumping fuel from a tanker to shore, almost 5.5 thousand tons of oil spilled into the Molucca Sea - 100 times more than a few days earlier in the South China Sea. Despite the operational actions, it was not possible to localize the spill of “black gold”.
