Booking accused of “leaking” information from travelers’ bank cards

A man under the nickname Oyshoboy published on the blog service Pikabu situation, which is associated with the “leak” of his bank card data from the Booking service.

A traveler booked a hotel room in Malaysia with Booking, and then noticed at the reception of the hotel he booked paper with his card number printed on it, the CVV code and data that should not be on public view.

According to the tourist, the hotel employee wrote off the money from his card, and did not ask for a pin code, so the traveler had to block the card.

Alexey Lukatsky, an information security specialist at Cisco Systems, said that information about similar situations had appeared before. “This is a hotel problem and the user can’t do anything about it. No one should see any printouts with personal data. If we are talking about a hotel in Russia, you can also write a complaint to Roskomnadzor, if it happens in Europe, to the local cybersecurity commissioner and he will have to sort it out.

Booking says it has launched an investigation into the data breach. Representatives of the resource report that customer bank card data is transferred safely and protected by a two-factor identification platform. But the responsibility for compliance with safety standards lies with hotels, which must agree to the terms of service.
