Part of the EU will no longer recognize non-biometric passports of Russia

From October 1, 2026, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg will cease to accept Russian non-biometric ordinary and official passports.

In Sweden, there is a transition period – until the end of 2026, holders of Schengen visas or residence permits issued before October 1 will be able to enter on old passports.

Restrictions on non-biometric Russian passports are already in place in many European countries. So, in 2023, this decision was made by Denmark, in 2024 – the Czech Republic, in 2025, the Baltic countries and France joined them, and in 2026 – Germany, Romania, Poland and Finland. A similar rule applies to Iceland, which is not part of the European Union.
