The number of single tourists in Russia increased by 4 times
The number of solo travelers in Russia has increased 4 times over the past 10 years, while there is a decrease in group tours.
During the St. Petersburg International Tourism Forum "Travel Hub. Travel!", Sergey Romashkin, Vice President of the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) for Domestic Tourism, noted a significant increase in the number of solo travelers. This number has quadrupled over the past ten years, indicating a steady trend, even if their share of the total number of tourists remains small.
Most often, individual tours are focused on destinations where there is no large flow of tourists, which allows you to avoid discomfort and enjoy privacy. In this regard, there is also an interest in author tours that offer unique experiences.
According to Romashkin, individual travel is much more expensive than traditional group travel, but despite this, people choose them to be able to truly immerse themselves in the culture of the country, whether it is Russia or another.
At the same time, the number of tourists in group tours is decreasing. According to studies, the average filling of buses on excursion routes has decreased by half: if in 2010-2015 group tours included 22-24 people, now this figure has decreased to 8-10, and sometimes up to 12 people. This change is due to the fact that tourists are tired of mass tourism and large groups, preferring small companies.
Thus, there is a significant evolution in the preferences of tourists, which indicates the need to adapt travel agencies to new requests.
