US bans entry of European citizens
The US imposes a ban on the arrival of EU citizens by air. The ban is effective from zero on March 13 and will last 30 days.
The tourist business will be supported by a deferred payment of taxes.
The ban on entry to citizens of EU countries was announced by US President Donald Trump. According to the United States, the measure was dictated by criticism of the Trump administration’s measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Currently, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus COVID-19 more than 1.2 thousand. Most of all - in the states of Washington, New York, Massachusetts.
The ban will affect the entire Schengen area, which includes most EU countries, Norway and Switzerland, but the restrictions do not apply to the UK.
Currently, entry from China and Iran is prohibited to the United States (except for US citizens). Trump did not rule out easing measures "as things change."
Europeans have failed to impose similarly effective restrictions on visits from China and other spreading points. A large number of new points of spread of the virus was formed precisely because of imported cases from Europe, Trump said.
The ban does not yet apply to freight from Europe, while Trump mentioned that such measures are "discussed."
The U.S. Small Business Administration will extend soft loans to companies affected by the coronavirus. The U.S. Federal Treasury will defer tax payments for companies and individuals whose businesses were affected by these events. Deferred payments in industries could reach $200 billion.
