Tax free experiment extended for three years

The experiment on the introduction of the tax free system in Russia, which started in 2018, will be extended for three years until the end of 2027. This decision was approved by the Russian government.

Foreigners, except tourists from the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which includes Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, can refund VAT on purchases made in Russia.

The tax refund system covers goods such as appliances, food, clothing, jewelry, books and medicines purchased in one day for at least 10 thousand rubles. However, tax free does not apply to excisable goods such as alcohol and tobacco products, as well as to goods purchased over the Internet.

Currently, the experiment on the tax free system is being implemented in 21 regions of Russia: Moscow, St. Petersburg, as well as in Moscow, Leningrad, Amur, Irkutsk, Kaliningrad, Novgorod, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov, Volgograd, Samara, Sverdlovsk regions, as well as in Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk, Khabarovsk, Primorsky and Trans-Baikal territories, as in Tatarstan, Mordovia and Buryatia.
