Experts estimate the probability of getting COVID-19 on vacation in Turkey
The chance of getting COVID-19 in Turkey is 218 times less than the chance of calling a travel insurance doctor for all possible reasons and 31 times less than the chance of contracting an infection in Moscow.
This follows from the data of ERV for the month since the start of Russian outbound tourism to Turkey.
More than 200,000 Russians were insured at the insurance company ERV, mostly from August 10 to September 10, 2020.
In August, 336 thousand Russians visited Antalya, 40 thousand – on the Aegean coast.
2,400 insurance events occurred with ERV customers during the specified period - the probability of illness on vacation and visiting a doctor among tourists is 1.2%, which does not differ from the data of 2019.
The majority of ERV customers’ insurance cases from August 10 to September 10 are non-COVID-19 related diseases.
Among the nearly 200,000 ERV-insured tourists in Turkey, 11 people have contracted some form of coronavirus - the probability of a tourist getting it in Turkey is 0.0055%, 218 times less than the probability of getting anything at all on vacation.
For comparison, in Moscow during the month recorded about 20.7 thousand cases (690 per day) the probability is 0.17% (31 times more than tourists in Turkey).
Of the 11 cases of COVID-19, 10 tourists (91%) were diagnosed with a mild form of the disease and were treated on an outpatient basis (rooms in their hotels). The insurance company paid for the costs of medicines, tests, tests.
One ERV-insured tourist with a positive coronavirus test needed hospitalization in a Turkish hospital. The patient has recovered successfully and is now at home. Inpatient treatment was fully paid by the insurance company.
“We remind you that the insurance policy of ERV has already included coverage of costs associated with the disease COVID-19...” – explained the Director of ERV Julia Alcheeva.
Not a single critical or fatal case associated with the disease COVID-19 in Turkey Russian tourists in the ERV in the period 10.08-10.09 recorded. All tourist deaths in Turkey during this period were due to other causes.
