The Italian Cathedral of Siena opened an attic for tourists
Secret passages through the attics of the famous Siena Cathedral have opened after decades of restoration and offer tourists a new, unprecedented view of the cathedral. The famous 13th-century cathedral invites guests to climb spiral staircases and stroll through the attic, looking around the cathedral from the inside from a 15-meter height.
Visitors can look at medieval mosaics through small windows, see near the nave line and decoration of the cathedral ceiling. The curator of Sienna Cathedral, Mario Lorenzi, told AFP that the roof of the cathedral was never considered a place suitable for excursions for tourists. A huge amount of work was done to clean the attic and offer guests new, amazing things.
Covered passageways, which can walk no more than 15 people at a time, provide beautiful views of the interior of the cathedral and overlook the tiled roofs of Siena. From the new passage, tourists get a different look at the works of Bernini, Donatello and Michelangelo, similar to the view from behind the theatrical scenes.
