Israel to ease quarantine restrictions

Prime Minister Israel Benjamin Netanyahu announced the decision of the authorities to gradually ease the quarantine and self-isolation of citizens from the coronavirus from Sunday.

Some businesses are allowed to open and restrictions on movement are relaxed.

In Israel, the rate of infection has slowed.

Authorities have tightened quarantine measures imposed on March 14, closing offices, shops, hotels, schools and asking people to stay mostly at home. These measures have caused enormous damage to Israel’s economy, and forced many companies to close down. It also resulted in unemployment of more than 25%.

Against this background, Benjamin Netanyahu was forced to announce the beginning of a phased easing of quarantine conditions: people will be able to play sports on the street, and retail stores will open electronics, stationery, optics, bookstores and household goods that are not in shopping centers. “Companies will be able to bring 30 percent of their employees back to work,” the prime minister said in a televised address to the nation.

As of Monday evening, there were 13,654 people infected with the coronavirus in Israel, 173 of them died.
